Hypnosis FAQ

Hypnosis Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between hypnosis and hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is helping people by the use of hypnosis.
Hypnosis has been used in therapy for thousands of years, and is found in most cultures in some form or another. Trance is a state where we have access to subconscious resources and can accept suggestions to achieve the positive change that we want.
Will I enjoy it?
Hypnosis is VERY relaxing.
It's a natural state, only we usually call it 'Falling asleep', 'Daydreaming', 'Going to the cinema', 'Watching telly', or 'Reading a book'. These experiences have common qualities: we are not aware of the passing of time, our body is relative immobile, we are more aware of our emotions, and our internal dialogue is quietened down.
Will you make me bark like a chicken?
No. No-one can make you do anything you don't want to, even under hypnosis. You are in control the whole time. No-one can force you to be hypnotised, make you do things you don't want to, or implant suggestions you don't want.
What does hypnosis feel like?
There are as many experiences as there are stars in the night sky; each person has a unique experience. However, there are some common features such as a dreamlike quality, a feeling of lightness or heaviness and knowing that you could move if you wanted but you don't want to.
